Incredible amounts of money have been lavished on it. Surrounded by secrecy, it is home to the wildest dreams and darkest nightmares. Think Homestuck but on a much smaller scale and much better written - dont get me wrong, i like Homestuck but the writing style in it is not the best.Īnyway, the book was good, but slow moving. You would not believe what is written in these two books if I told you. That feeling almost makes this complexity feel natural.
The entire story has an almost dreamlike feel to it. I really like the way Reneie and many other characters were written. The story was good though, I give this aspect a 8 out of ten.Ĭharacters were also good. It is so complex that people sometimes compare it to Malazan, so this is not a read that is going to be good for new time readers. The world its building is expansive and immense. The story itself is complex and slow moving, it however needs to be this way. The prose itself is a 9 out of ten, Tad Williams has always been a good prose writer and it shines in this book, growing with him as the pages move on. There are a ton of other plotlines in this book that grow complex webs around the story. It is set in the year 2082 and part of it revolves around Renie Sulaweyo and her quest to save her brother and see why he and many other kids cannot leave it - this is almost verbatim the synopsis on Goodreads, so it's not a spoiler if you are worried. It is about a lot of people - and I mean a lot, the casts starts decently large and grows significantly from there. The book series Otherland itself is four parts, the first one is City of Golden Shadow and it came out in 1996, following William's Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series.
